When a church is just starting, you might not have a piano player. Even when you do start with a pianist, they might miss on occasion. So, what can you do in these situations?
Digital music is an excellent solution to your problem. Digital music is pre-recorded hymns and songs that you can play, just like other digital music.

Once you have your source of hymn music, what do you do next?
Choose a music player.
You can play the hymn music through your smart phone, an MP3 player, iTunes, or your laptop music player. Depending on your piano/keyboard, you can even play the hymns through your keyboard. You will need to make sure your music player is connected to your PA system.
Format
Most digital hymn music consists of an introduction and three verses. You need to know this before the service, so you can let people know what verses you will be singing. The hymns sometimes are recorded slower than you like or too high for most to sing. This is not a problem. There is free software you can use to change this problem. You can change the tempo and the key of the song. Once you do this, you can save it and never have to do it again for that song. A good software for this is Audacity.

PowerPoint / Keynote
If you put your song on the screen using PowerPoint or Keynote, there is one last thing that you can do. You can import the song into your presentation. Therefore, once you start the hymn, the music will start playing automatically. Your computer must be connected to the PA system for this to work.
